Pre-workout Nutrition

Properly fueling before your workouts is crucial for a great session! Your body needs an adequate amount of food to perform at its best. Carbohydrates are the most important pre-workout fuel. They provide energy and endurance during physical activity. Adding in protein keeps you full and energized for longer amounts of time.

Pre-workout nutrition goals:
Increasing glycogen stores via carbohydrate intake
Optimize energy levels
Hydration

When should I eat before I exercise? Have a snack an hour beforehand. Or, have a meal 2-3 hours before you work out.

What should I eat? A combination of carbohydrates and protein is ideal for properly fueling physical activity. If having a snack, go super low in fat or just all carbohydrates. Food high in fat before a workout may cause stomach upset and ruin your session. Having a meal? Feel free to include fat, just not too much fat. You don’t want a delicious cheeseburger and fries a few hours before hitting the gym.
