Post-workout Nutrition

The food you eat directly affects your post-workout recovery. Your body requires an adequate amount of quality nutrients for optimal recovery. Athletes need even more fuel than a person who is not physically active. Carbohydrates, protein, and fluids are all key components of recovery nutrition.
Post-workout goals:

  • Refuel and rehydrate
  • Promote muscle growth and repair with protein
  • Replenish glycogen stores with carbohydrates
  • Decrease muscle soreness
  • Optimize gains in strength and power

When should I eat after I exercise? 15-90 minutes afterwards

What should I eat? A combination of carbohydrates and protein is ideal for optimal recovery. Keep it low in fat. Food high in fat takes longer to absorb. This slows the recovery process!

Depending on the timing of your workout, you can have either a snack or a meal.
